He was appointed Bishop of Belgaum by the then Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on February 2, 2006 and Ordained a Bishop at Belgaum on March 30, the same year. His 12 years’ service as the Bishop of Belgaum saw great pastoral, educational and developmental activities in the diocese. He is very fast mover without needing much rest, has very high typing speed, fruitful multi tasker, intellectually a great thinker, a vociferous reader, keeping abreast of the latest, excellent communicator and a great orator. His great achievement was when he headed the Laity Commission of the Karnataka Regional Bishops and started the Catholic Council of Karnataka to have an active laity. These qualities will help him in facing the challenges as the Archbishop of Bangalore.

He headed the Indian delegation to the International WAF General Assembly in Nov 2012. He chaired our Indian National meeting in Goa on 21 Nov 2012 and 18 Nov 2015. He animated us to go to various Dioceses to spread the Fatima message in preparation for the Fatima Centenary.
